Although my roots are in New York City, I have spent most of my life in Connecticut. A love of art came early to me, but it was in high school that I realized fine art was what I wanted to study. I had the privilege of having art teachers who not only were exceptional, but whose encouragement gave me the confidence to continue on this path which felt so right to me.
I continued my studies at the University of Connecticut and graduated with a BFA in painting. Working in a small advertising agency after graduation introduced me to the world of graphic design and print media. SInce then my career has been a mixture of these two disciplines. Working in graphic design is gratifying and a challenge in itself, but at the end of the day, it is always painting that had its hold on me.
One time in a review, someone described my paintings as “explosive, organic and vivid”. I like that description. Each artist has a unique and personal technique in how he approaches his craft. Me? I go where the paint takes me. It is a color that drives me, and it grows from there. I have a sense or a feeling of how I want the painting to end up, but it morphs and changes each time I pick up the brush to work on it. I paint in layers, with each layer adding more dimension and light, until it finally reaches a point when I can say it is finished.
I paint because I love color. It truly is my passion.
My work has been shown in New Haven, Fairfield and Bethel, CT.
My paintings are currently on display at Lauretano's in Bethel, CT. until October 15.
